Episode 16: A Guest-less Panic

Wednesday Sep 25, 2019

Wednesday Sep 25, 2019

Mistakes were made. Here's me talking about that John Travolta movie that the guy from Limp Bizkit made. Y'know, that the internet can't stop talking about? Yeah, that one. Actual guest coming next week.

Episode 15: Mike Barach

Tuesday Sep 17, 2019

Tuesday Sep 17, 2019

Mike Barach is an LA-based comedian and an all-around wacky individual. Just how wacky? Guess you'll have to listen to this episode and see for yourself ;) We talked about Juuling, the surreal world of community college, and the challenges of developing one's voice as a comedian in a hyper-competitive time and city. Also, if you've been dying to hear two straight white guys parrot their sentiment on "cancel culture" and censorship in comedy to one another, well consider that hard-to-reach itch finally scratched with this episode!

Episode 14: Braxton Soderman

Wednesday Aug 28, 2019

Wednesday Aug 28, 2019

Hey, it's me again. Hope I'm not bugging you or anything right now. I just wanted to stop in and say real quick that this new episode of "The Talk Show Formerly Known as 'Half Past Five'" is a really good one. It's got this guy named Braxton Soderman on it- Yeah, I know our names are similar. Don't worry. We totally talked about it on the show.- Anyway yeah, so he's writing a couple books right now. One is a historical overview of the Mattel Electronics Intellivision- a revolutionary retro console which time sadly forgot. The other examines the effects of a psychological state known as "flow," and how it responds to video games and gameification. Anywhow, we had a pretty fascinating talk. Just thought you might like to know and, I dunno, maybe listen to it for yourself. Well, that's it really. You can go back to sleep now. Goodnight. I love you. *kisses you on forehead; turns off light*

Wednesday Aug 21, 2019

In a world where talk radio/podcast hosts make egregious scheduling snafus, one man will rise from the ashes and answer the call of duty. That man is Thoren Jorgensen... Who was kind enough to come in and record a more or less impromptu interview when I realized at the last minute that I had accidentally booked who was intended to be this week's guest for next. Anyhow, this was a pretty atypical episode and instead of really promoting much of anything, Thoren and I mostly just rambled about our irrelevant and ultimately completely inconsequential opinions about pop culture. If you're a big giant dork like us and that sounds like your kinda thing, check it out!

Episode 12: Shawn Holographic

Wednesday Aug 14, 2019

Wednesday Aug 14, 2019

Boy, oh boy, folks. Do I got a doozy of an episode for ya this time around, I tell ya hwut. Shawn Holographic (AKA Holograph) is a hip hop artist out of LA, born and raised in Tampa, FL. With his extensive background in fine arts and classical music, as well as being the son of legendary Florida jazz musician, Shawn Brown, Holograph has a true knack for implementing influences from a variety of musical genres and eras within his own work. We got real heady with this one and talked about his unconventional creative process, the significance of dreams, and the tools an artist needs to stand out in the modern age. Give it a listen and, when you're done, check out Holograph's work, which is available on pretty much every major streaming platform out there. Also, be sure to keep an eye out for his upcoming EP, "Black Piece of Sh*t," which drops next month. SoundCloud Link: https://soundcloud.com/shawnholographic

Episode 11: Amos Vernon

Wednesday Jul 31, 2019

Wednesday Jul 31, 2019

Amos Vernon is a sketch comic, actor, writer, and director, as well as a former instructor of mine at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater in Hollywood. Amos is perhaps best known for his work with his sketch troupe, Boat, as well as his role as Uncle Sam on the hit TruTV show, "Adam Ruins Everything." I sat down with Amos to discuss his unconventional career path and his advice to those seeking unconventional careers. We also discussed his latest two short films, "Dig Your Own Grave" and "Baggage," and even did a reading of a very funny sketch from Boat themselves! Ch-ch-check it out, folk-er-i-dokes!

Episode 10: Desha Dauchan

Wednesday Jul 24, 2019

Wednesday Jul 24, 2019

They said it couldn't be done... They all laughed me out the door when I told them I'd get this far. Well, who's laughin' now, Buster Brown?!?!?!? TEN SPANKIN' EPISODES!!! And who did I have on the show to ring in this ceremonious event? Why, none other than the exceptionally talented and highly lauded filmmaker, Desha Dauchan. Desha is the recipient of seemingly countless awards and accolades for her career which spans over two decades. A few her films have also been screened at both Sundance and the Cannes Film Festival among others! It was an honor to have her on the show and discuss the history of her career, the importance of representation and the exploration of identity in film, and what responsibility, if any, artists have to combat hate and authoritarianism under an administration as divisive and dangerous as this current one. Enjoy EPISODE TEN, BABY, YEAH!!! **Airhorn Sound**

Episode 9: Kerry Parke

Wednesday Jul 17, 2019

Wednesday Jul 17, 2019

After a two week hiatus, "The Talk Show Formerly Known as 'Half Past Five'" is back and better than ever, baybeh! This week, I had the pleasure of talking with Kerry Parke. Kerry is the host of Phonic Passport- a music show right here at KUCI! We talked about... very little of substance actually... But, y'know what, we had a lot of fun doing it and we hope you have fun listening!

Episode 8: Essa Rasheed

Wednesday Jun 26, 2019

Wednesday Jun 26, 2019

Time for another dank episode of "The Talk Show Formerly Known as 'Half Past Five'." This time, I'm interviewing UCI student and good friend, Essa Rasheed, about his upcoming animated... documentary... thingy... called "Words Words Words." I call it a "documentary thingy" because it's not technically a documentary but it's basically a documentary. You'll have to listen to the episode to find out what I mean by that. ** - B A I T E D - ** Also wanna give a quick shout-out to friends of the show, Robert Durst and OJ Simpson. Hope all remains well and controversy-free on your guys' end!

Episode 7: Cathy Shambley Baer

Wednesday Jun 19, 2019

Wednesday Jun 19, 2019

Long-time Groundling, Cathy Shambley Baer, has built an impressive resume in the world of comedy and of entertainment as a whole. To say that she's got a few stories to tell would be the understatement of the century. For my first hour-long interview on the show, Cathy and I sat down at her home to discuss her over-thirty year history with the Groundlings theater in Los Angeles, as well as her work writing and acting on several hit TV shows. We also talk about her time leading character and improv workshops with the Mira Costa High School Drama Department in Manhattan Beach, CA. Lots to unpack here, folks so give it a listen!
